Kyiv Ukrainian officials said on Monday that at least three Ukrainian civilians were killed and 20 wounded in shells fired by Russian military artillery. The area east of Donetsk, one of Ukraine’s two industrial regions that has always been the target of Russian attacks, has suffered the heaviest shelling. Regional officials said at least three people were killed and 13 wounded in Russian shelling in several towns and villages in the Donetsk region during the past 24 hours. Dozens of residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were damaged by gunfire.

In Kharkiv, the country’s second largest city, seven civilians were injured in the latest Russian shelling in an area near residential buildings and a bus stop early Monday. Kharkiv Governor Oleh Sinyhubov said an 80-year-old woman was among the injured. The Russian military also fired rockets and artillery shells on several other areas of Ukraine. Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov said on Monday that Russian warplanes struck Ukrainian army posts in the southern Kherson region and the Donetsk region.

He said the Russian air force also attacked a facility in the Kharkiv region, killing at least 100 people from Poland and Germany and wounding “50 mercenaries”. However, their claims could not be independently verified.
