Congress President Election: After filing his candidacy for the post of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Mallikarjun Kharge has resigned from the post of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha (LoP in Rajya Sabha). Kharge has resigned under the one person, one post formula. Meanwhile, Kharge’s candidature for the post of president is being considered strong. He has resigned from the post of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha today after filing his application for the post of Congress President yesterday. Now it is also curious that to whom Congress will hand over the post of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha. The names of P Chidambaram, Digvijay Singh, Jairam Ramesh are being discussed for the post of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha.

After resigning, Kharge said that he has taken this decision under the rule of one post of Congress leader. Kharge has sent his resignation to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi. In the Congress’s thought camp held in Udaipur, it was decided that no person can hold two posts in the party.

Kharge may become the next president of Congress

Mallikarjun Khadke is likely to be the next national president of the party. Kharge had filed his application on September 30, after which the election for the post of president would be held on October 17 and results would be declared on October 19. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is against Kharge. Kharge is most likely to win as he is said to have the support of the Gandhi family. He had 30 supporters with him at the time of nomination.

Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Anand Sharma, Prithviraj Chavan, Manish Tiwari of G-23 group were also present while filing Kharge’s nomination papers. Hence Kharge is considered the unanimous candidate of the party. Kharge hails from Karnataka, the only state in South India where the BJP has a strong position. Elections are also due soon in Karnataka.

A total of three candidates applied on the last day of filing nomination papers. However, the former MP from Karnataka’s Gulbarga constituency lost in 2019. Leader of Congress Group in Lok Sabha from 2014 to 2019. He also served as the Union Railway Minister during the UPA government. Minister in Congress Government in Karnataka, also held the post of President of Karnataka Congress. In-charge of Maharashtra Congress from 2018 to 2020 is also involved in the formation of Mahavikas Aghadi. Apart from Kharge and Tharoor, former Jharkhand minister KN Tripathi has also applied for the post of Congress President. The last date for withdrawal of applications is now October 8.
