Tokyo: India won its 12th medal at the Tokyo Paralympics on Friday (September 3). India won a medal in the women’s 50m rifle three position event. India’s talented shooter Avani Lekhara won the bronze medal. At the Tokyo Paralympics, Avani has given India a second medal by hitting the target accurately. Earlier she has won gold medal for the country. She became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in the history of Paralympic Games. Notably, she is the first woman to win two medals in the same Olympics or Paralympics.

19-year-old Avani won the gold medal in the 10m air rifle competition 4 days ago. And now he has also won a bronze medal for the country with his rifle. This is India’s fourth bronze medal at the Tokyo Paralympics. Avani Lekhara stood fourth with 149.5 points. She dropped to sixth straight after the prone round, but then made a strong comeback and ended the tournament with a third place.

Friday was a lucky day for India at the Tokyo Paralympics. The silver medal had also fallen into India’s hands before Avani won the bronze medal. Praveen Kumar won the silver medal for India in the men’s high jump. He achieved this feat by jumping a height of 2.07 metres. Praveen Kumar’s performance was better than his personal best. He has also set a new Asian record with such a high jump.

Barely an hour after Praveen Kumar’s silver medal, Avani Lekhar gave India another chance to celebrate by winning a medal in shooting. Avani, who has won two medals so far, will now once again enter the shooting range and win the third medal for the country on 5 September.

After winning medals in high jump and shooting, India’s hopes of winning more medals in other sports have increased. India has reached the semi-finals of badminton singles and mixed doubles. Indian archers have also qualified for the next round.
