You have to wait 767 days for the same class visa at the consulate in Kolkata, it is 848 days in Mumbai. The waiting period for interview appointment has increased from one to two months.

Unlike India, Chinese nationals living in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou will have to wait only a few hours for a visa interview appointment, compared to Indian cities. The US Embassy in Beijing, the capital of China, is giving time to Chinese citizens for visa interviews in just two days. For other categories of visas, including student visas, Chinese nationals have to wait for a few hours longer than Indians. America’s social media has erupted over this discrimination. Some people are directly linking it with the failed diplomacy of the Modi government. Netizens say that the US is using India as a tool for its strategic interests. They have no concern about bilateral trade with India or the future of Indian students pursuing higher education. India’s passport is very weak in the eyes of America.

It is said that the interview period for the US visa for Indians has increased more than the last few months. In the months of July-August, this waiting period was equal to 500 days i.e. about one and a half years.
