The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that two people on board one plane were found dead in the wreckage and the body of one person on the other plane was found at a different location in the wreckage. Mountain View Fire Rescue, which works in the area, has confirmed three deaths. At the same time, the police have also closed some roads in the area.
According to news agency AP, the collision took place at around 9 am local time on Saturday. The identity of the victims has not been disclosed at this time. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said in a statement posted on Twitter that it is investigating a collision between a Cessna 172 and Sonex Genos aircraft near Longmont, Colorado. Longmont is about 30 miles (50 kilometers) north of Denver.
The Cessna 172, also known as the Skyhawk, is one of the most popular aircraft in the world. It seats four people. It is commonly used in flight instruction. According to the Washington Post, the number of air collisions between planes in the US is very low. In the US, more than 30 such cases have been reported in a year so far.
