America: Massive shooting at Oakland school, 6 injured, 3 in critical condition

Oakland. At least six people were injured on Wednesday in a shooting at a school in Oakland, California. According to Alameda County Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Ray Kelly, the shooting has ended. At the same time, Oakland Fire Department spokesman Michael Hunt said that paramedics took six patients to the hospital. Everyone was injured in the shooting. Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf tweeted that all of the injured were adults and that the shooting took place in the Alternative K-12 School Sojourner Truth Independent Study.

Officials did not say whether any of the victims could be students aged 18 or older. Officials said three of the wounded were in critical condition at Highland Hospital in Oakland, while the other three were taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley and their condition was not known. Television footage showed dozens of police vehicles and yellow tape on the road outside the school and students leaving the surrounding area. City council member Treva Reid said investigators told her the shooting may be related to an increase in “group and mass violence.”

Oakland Police Capt. Casey Johnson confirmed in a brief news conference that six people had been shot, and did not answer any questions. City council member Lauren Taylor, who was outside the school, declined to confirm any details about the incident. “There were guns in our school premises where our children were safe,” he told KTVU-TV.
