News Agency, Kyiv: On Sunday, the Ukrainian army retaliated against Russia in the eastern part of the country. Ukrainian forces tried to take control of Russian-occupied territories, mainly in the northeastern Kharkiv region. Fearing being surrounded by this unexpected and quick attack by the Ukrainian army, Russia had to withdraw its troops. During this conflict they had to leave behind their vital arms and ammunition. As the Russo-Ukraine War turns 200 days on Sunday, it appears Ukrainian troops have made significant gains in the week-long conflict in the region.

President Volodymyr Zelensky mocked the Russian military in a video late Saturday after Ukrainian troops took an aggressive stand. “Right now Russian soldiers are doing the best they can and that is turning their backs,” he criticized. Then on Sunday, he also posted a video of Ukrainian soldiers unfurling the national flag after they captured Chkalovsk, another Russian-occupied city, in a retaliatory strike.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has liberated about 3,000 square kilometers of its territory from Russia since September, and the Ukrainian army is now only 50 km from the Russian border, Ukrainian military chief General Valery Zaluzhny said on Sunday.

Zaporizhia’s last nuclear reactor shuts down

Kyiv: Engineers shut down the last reactor at Europe’s largest Zaporizhia nuclear power plant on Sunday to prevent radiation exposure amid the Russo-Ukrainian military conflicts. The six-reactor Zaporizhia plant lost its external power source a week earlier after missile and artillery fire knocked out all power lines. The project had been operating in ‘island mode’ for several days, generating electricity from its only operating reactor.
