Zomato Begins Testing Intercity Legends Feature for Food Delivery Across States in Gurugram, South Delhi

Zomato has started testing the company’s upcoming Intercity Legends, a service that allows customers to order dishes from other regions across the country, company founder and CEO Deepander Goyal said on Tuesday. This service is currently available for select customers in Gurugram and South Delhi. Zomato says it plans to rapidly expand the service to other cities in the coming weeks. The company currently limits food orders from restaurants and outlets within a few kilometers of the customer.

Goyal in a blog post on Tuesday said The company is working on a way to bring popular dishes to the doorsteps of customers in cities across India. “With ‘Intercity Legends’, wherever you are, you can order and taste legendary dishes like Baked Rosogolla from Kolkata, Biryani from Hyderabad, Mysore Pak from Bangalore, Kabab from Lucknow, Butter Chicken from Old Delhi or Payaj Kachori from Jaipur,” he said.

The company will use its network of restaurant partners and delivery partners to deliver next day popular dishes across the country with customer insights, Goyal explained.

When the feature is rolled out to all users, the “iconic dishes” will be available to order through the Zomato app, after which they will be shipped to users via flight, in reusable and tamper-proof containers. Zomato will use mobile refrigeration technology to preserve food without adding preservatives or freezing.

Intercity Legends is now available for testing in parts of Gurugram and South Delhi for select users and the company plans to pilot the feature in other cities in the coming weeks.
