After having disrupted the world of telecoms, Free wants to tackle that of payments by cutting prices. Iliad, Xavier Niel’s group, launched its own payment solution on Tuesday, called Stancer Pay, with the aim of making a name for itself in a booming market. “It all started with the fact that Xavier Niel was tired of paying exorbitant sums to the service provider who managed Free’s payments,” says George Owen, Stancer’s young boss and former business lawyer.

Developed in-house since 2018, Stancer already manages 200,000 transactions per day, mainly related to Free services. “The solution is now sufficiently robust to be marketed”, resumes George Owen. It looks like any other solution aimed at merchants. Namely, a downloadable API to accept payments online and a payment terminal to accept payments at the point of sale.
