The Center believes that India needs a legal framework commensurate with the realities of the 21st century, said an explanatory note to the proposed bill to be named the Indian Telecommunications Bill, 2022.
“The existing regulatory framework for the telecommunication sector is based on the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885. The nature, use and technology of telecommunication have changed tremendously since the era of “telegraph”. The world stopped using “telegraph”. 2013,” the explanatory note said.
