The Good Wife Teaser Trailer: Kajol Leads Hotstar’s Indian Remake of the American Political Drama Series

The first-look teaser of the new Hotstar special, The Good Wife – Pyaar, Kanun, Dhok, is out. Disney+ Hotstar unveiled a 30-second trailer for the Indian adaptation of the upcoming Kajol-led American political drama series. Suparn Varma — known for Amazon Prime’s The Family Man — directs the Hindi remake, which stars Kajol in a supporting role, making her series debut. The Good Wife is currently in mid-production and therefore, has no release window. It is produced by Banjay Asia, known for reality TV shows like Ranveer vs Wild with Bear Grylls.

The Indian adaptation of The Good Wife marks the fifth time the original Julianna Margulies-led CBS show has been remade. Plot details are scarce, but based on the original show, — now streaming on Amazon Prime Video — the series will focus on the comeback of a retired lawyer who spent the last 13 years as a stay-at-home mom. The conflict here is that her husband, a famous politician, went to jail for being involved in a sex scandal. Facing scrutiny from the general public and her colleagues, the single mother must now be the sole breadwinner, raising her two children.

In The Good Wife – Pyaar, Kanun, Dhoka teaser, Kajol dresses up in her black lawyer’s suit and steps into what looks like her law firm. “Throughout my acting journey, I have played many characters, but the first role is always special. The beauty of OTT platforms is that they give creators and actors the opportunity to reinvent and experiment with different formats, and with Disney+ Hotstar’s The Good Wife, I got just that!” Kajol said in a prepared statement. “As a first career move, I will be playing a lawyer in my first serial, directed by Suparn Varma.”

The Good Wife – Pyaar, Kanun, Dhoka joins the list of three other Indian original shows announced on Thursday as part of Disney+ Day. One of them was actually written by the aforementioned Varma. Titled “Pirates”, the plot follows a commercial Indian ship that is hijacked off the coast of Somalia. The series has no release date, and sees the Hansal and Jai Mehta-directed father-son duo reunite from their work on SonyLIV’s Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story.

There is no release window for The Good Wife – Pyaar, Kaan, Dhok, which will be available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar.
