Women and Child Development Corporation, UNICEF, Save the Children and Plan International organized a workshop on ‘Shashak Beti, Samridhi Bihar: Towards Enhancing the Value of the Girl Child’. In this workshop, a girl asked if the government could not provide free sanitary pads worth Rs 20-30. Harjot Kaur Bamra, Chairman cum Managing Director of Women and Child Development Corporation gave a controversial answer.
IAS officer Harjot Kaur replied, “Is there any end to these demands? Tomorrow you will say the government will give jeans, beautiful shoes? Finally, when the time for family planning comes, all of you will also need free condoms.”

Responding to Harjot Kaur’s reply, the student said, “Government is formed by the vote of the people. Harjot Kaur said that this is nonsense. Don’t vote, go to Pakistan.
