Make way for neon! This medium is in the spotlight for the second edition of the contemporary art fair Art Fair // Dijon, in Côte-d’Or, from September 30 to October 2. The curved glass tube closely linked to the iconography ofamerican way of life is the common thread of the off-site animations and exhibitions of this international meeting which aims to be part of the hexagonal calendar of contemporary art. Neon lights by emerging artists as well as others by artists who have made it their specialty are presented in two dedicated “black boxes”.

Over 5,000m2 (2,800 for the 2021 edition), Art Fair // Dijon welcomes 26 gallery owners from Burgundy-Franche-Comté, Paris, Brussels and Luxembourg to the metropolitan Exhibition and Congress Centre, 60% of whom were present for the 2021 edition.

“2021 was a zero edition: we were launching a brand new fair in the region in the midst of a health crisis”, reminds Jean-Marc Bassand, the conductor of the fair. “I would say that 2022 is the first edition, which arouses a different enthusiasm with the total commitment of the city of Dijon and a new artistic director. »

5,000 visitors expected

This new artistic director, Christophe Delavault, was notably the European representative of the Art Miami fair and then the instigator, in 2008, of the contemporary art fair in Washington, Art DC. “He works at Drouot and is very involved in Parisian artistic life, which facilitates contacts,” notes Jean-Marc Bassand.

Under the high patronage of François Rebsamen, mayor of Dijon, the city participated in the organization by helping with communication around the event. It is also present on a stand of 70 m2 to show the works of its artists in residence.

Art Fair // Dijon also presents the work of Fabien Mérelle, and in particular the preparatory study of the sculpture on Burgundy stone carried out for the spaces of the Center for the Interpretation of Architecture and Heritage (CIAP), 1204, in the new international city of gastronomy in Dijon, presented from the opening, in May 2022.

The budget of the fair, which is accompanied by events outside the walls, amounts to nearly 300,000 euros. During the 2021 edition, Art Fair // Dijon welcomed just under 2,500 visitors. The organizers hope to double this number this year.
