We will have to wait a bit. The Banque de France announced that “there will be no exceptional rise in the Livret A rate in November, any more than there was last May”, according to the words of a bearer. word of the institution relayed by the “Parisian” . “There will be a further rise in the Livret A rate on February 1,” he assured, however.

If the rise in prices fell slightly in September, it remains high, at a level of 5.6% over one year, according to an estimate published Friday by INSEE. Also, the Banque de France could have proposed on October 15 an increase in the rate of the Livret A applicable from November 1. But it won’t.

One last recent boost

It must be said that, on a proposal from the Banque de France, the government already decided a few months ago on a “significant” increase in the Livret A rate. Thus, on August 1, it doubled, going from 1% to 2%, while the People’s Savings Book (LEP), reserved for the most modest households, saw its rate go from 2.2% to 4 .6%.

This increase was followed by a jump in the collection of the preferred placement of the French. Livret A and Livret de développement durable et solidaire (LDDS), whose pay rates are aligned, thus garnered an additional 5.28 billion euros in August, i.e. the highest level for a month of August for this type of placement since 2009.

The prospect of a further rise in the Livret A rate at the beginning of next year should not dry up inflows. Even if the real rate remains negative given the high level of inflation, the deterioration of the economic outlook could push many French people to be more ants than cicadas.
