The central dossier of the issue is devoted to perinatal care in Reunion and Mayotte. It presents the context – historical, cultural -, analyzes living conditions, social and environmental determinants. Then, the local situation regarding perinatality is analyzed, with examples of programs that aim to improve the health of mother and child, also to prevent risks. In Reunion: prevention of fetal alcoholization, therapeutic education in the prevention of gestational diabetes in pregnant women, prevention of unwanted pregnancies, including among teenagers. In Mayotte: an itinerant consultation truck for pregnant women – cared for by a midwife and a social worker; a TV series to fight against received ideas about sexuality; the training of professionals with perinatal days.
