Currently, Oppo plans to release updates to around 35 smartphone models a year. The update plan will cover more than 60 countries and more than 160 million users, according to the company. ColorOS 13 will roll out to 20 more phone models starting in 2023.

ColorOS 13: What’s New

ColorOS 13 features an aquamorphic design that, according to Oppo, is inspired by the fluidity of water. The new ColorOS 13 is based on the Android 13 beta version. The update brings a redesigned user interface. It offers a new theme palette and a new font that is said to improve the readability of text in any language, Oppo added. ColorOS 13 has a card-style layout for notifications and widgets, and app icons have curved edges. It also brings the Quantum Animation Engine that enables aquamorphic effects.

Oppo’s new OS version offers a new series of always-on display (AOD) images called Homeland. AOD images show various animals in their natural habitat. AOD also gets animations that reveal changes in the habitat the animals live in. The company has also released Dynamic Computing Engine with ColorOS 13. According to Oppo, the new engine will deliver a smoother and more stable user experience by extending the phone’s battery life and providing the ability to run more tasks in the background.

Oppo said that with Smart AOD on ColorOS 13, users will be able to access information from music and food delivery apps directly from the lock screen. The company has partnered with several companies like Bitmoji, Spotify, Swiggy and Zomato to integrate the above mentioned feature into Smart AOD. Additionally, the company has reduced the AOD refresh rate to 1 Hz using LTPO 2.0 technology. The company claims this can save around 30 percent of electricity “under certain conditions.”

The company has also added a feature called Meeting Assistant, which can automatically prioritize wireless data packets to provide a stable connection. It also “simplifies” banner notifications to minimize interruptions. With the ColorOS 13 update, the multi-screen connect feature now supports sharing between Oppo handsets, Oppo Pad Air and Oppo desktops. The improved version of Multi-Screen Connect will boost productivity, the company said.

Furthermore, ColorOS 13 integrates Android 13’s built-in privacy features. Oppo’s Auto Pixelate feature is also offered with the new OS version that detects and blurs profile pictures and names in chat screenshots. ColorOS 13 also brings a new Encrypted Private Secure feature with an advanced encryption standard, which the company says provides a “higher level” of security.
