Oppo to lead Made in India smartphone shipments in Q2 2022: Counterpoint

According to Counterpoint’s latest research, Made in India smartphone shipments are expected to grow by 16 percent to 44 million units in Q2 2022. Oppo led the Made in India smartphone shipments with a 24 percent share. Oppo’s lead was closely followed by Samsung. Domestic brand Laval holds a 21 percent share in the Made in India feature phone segment. The wearable segment was led by TWS contributing 16 percent followed by neckbands and smartwatches.

According to recent counterpoint research, shipments of Made in India smartphones increased 16 percent YoY to reach 44 million units in Q2 2022. The reason for this was that companies are pushing for higher production to meet the norms of Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes.

Made in India smartphone shipments grew by 7 percent year-on-year (YoY) in the first quarter of 2022.

Talking about India’s local manufacturing ecosystem, Counterpoint Research Analyst Prachir Singh said, “Shipments of Made in India smartphones have increased compared to last year. This quarter, we are witnessing increased investment in the Indian manufacturing ecosystem with new plants being set up as well as expansion of existing ones. . Recently, Oppo announced the Vihan initiative under which it plans to invest $60 million over the next five years to empower the local supply chain. Samsung has increased its production with the premium segment of smartphones, particularly the Galaxy S series. Going forward, the upcoming festive season is expected to boost local demand. In India will further boost shipments.”

As mentioned earlier, Oppo leads the Made in India smartphone shipments with 24 percent share followed by Samsung. Indian tech brand Lava has grabbed 21 percent share in the Made in India feature phone segment. The wearable segment was led by TWS contributing 16 percent followed by neckbands and smartwatches.

India is expected to witness a rapidly expanding electronics manufacturing and innovation ecosystem.
