Ask around if making weapons is an activity compatible with sustainable development: it’s a safe bet that you will be told no. But ask if “France and Europe need an effective army to preserve freedom and peace on our continent”, and the yes will prevail.
So peace and sustainable development do not go hand in hand? However paradoxical it may be, this question is now echoed at the highest level of political decision-makers in Europe.
