On this day in history Indira Gandhi's arrest in history Berlin Wall that changed the world History and Geography

Mumbai: A landmark event in world history and geography, the fall of the Berlin Wall occurred on October 3, 1990. This was an important event in world history. Also, after the Janata Party government came to power in the country, Indira Gandhi was arrested on corruption charges on the same day. Knowing this, which events of history are witnesses today.

Following are the important events that happened today in the history of India and around the world,

1831 – British capture of Mysore state

Hyder Ali conquered and controlled Mysore in the 18th century. After his death in 1782, his son Tipu Sultan ruled till 1799. In the Battle of Srirangapatna in 1799, the British conquered the Kingdom of Mysore by defeating Tipu Sultan and installed a nominal king at this place. But the complex political entanglements of the place kept the instability going. So on 3 October 1831, the British removed this king from the throne and appointed an English commissioner.

1923 – Death of Kadimbini Ganguly

Kadambini Ganguly, one of India’s first female doctors, died on October 3, 1923. He graduated in modern medicine. She was the first Indian woman to address the National Congress platform.

1952 – Britain’s test of the first atomic bomb

After the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II, developed countries expressed their desire to have such nuclear weapons and competition ensued. On 3 October 1952, Britain tested its first atomic bomb as part of Operation Hurricane.

1952 – The ban on the consumption of tea in Britain is lifted

The consumption of tea was banned in Britain in 1940. So people had to consume tea in limited quantities. After that the control was lifted after 12 years. The ban was lifted on 3 October 1952. So the British could drink as much tea as they wanted.

1977- Indira Gandhi arrested on corruption charges

Indira Gandhi was defeated in the 1977 elections after the imposition of emergency in the country. Indira Gandhi was arrested on 3 October 1977 by the Janata Party Morarji Desai government which came to power. This was the first time a former prime minister had been arrested. Along with Indira Gandhi, four other ministers also had to go to jail. Indira Gandhi was accused of forcibly buying 104 jeeps from two companies during the 1977 Lok Sabha elections. He was also accused of corruption while awarding a contract worth Rs 1.34 crore to a French petroleum company. Indira Gandhi was later released.

1990 – The fall of the Berlin Wall that changed the history and geography of the world.

During World War II, Germany surrendered to Allied forces led by the United States. These allies then divided Germany into two parts. The western part of Germany went to Europe and the eastern part to Soviet Russia. In 1961, Soviet Russian President Nikita Khrushchev built a wall between East and West Germany, the Berlin Wall, to prevent the increasing migration of people from East Germany.

After the winds of revolution swept through the countries led by Soviet Russia, the unification of East and West Germany began to be discussed. For this already dissatisfied citizens started agitation. On 3 October 1990, people from both sides brought down the wall and after four decades of conflict, Germany was reunited. The fall of the Berlin Wall changed the geography and history of the world.

2021- Death of eight farmers protesting in Lakhimpur Khirik

In Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, eight farmers were killed in protest against the central government’s new agricultural laws. Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra crushed the protesting farmers. After that there was an incident of violence in this area.
