Nord Stream pipeline rupture in the Baltic Sea causes massive methane leak

Baltic Sea Methane Leak News: Pipeline explosion in the Baltic Sea gas leak (Gas leak) is happening. An explosion has occurred in the Nord Stream pipeline at the bottom of the Baltic Sea. Due to this a large amount of methane gas is being leaked. The explosion occurred 100 meters below the Baltic Sea. Due to this a large amount of methane gas is being leaked. About 23 thousand kg of methane gas is leaking every hour. This has created a big crisis for European countries.

What is Nord Stream Pipeline?

Nord Stream 2 is an underwater pipeline that supplies natural gas from Russia to Germany. The length of this pipeline is 1234 km and it is located in the Baltic Sea at a depth of 100 meters. The Nord Stream pipeline passes through the Baltic Sea. Gazprom and many European energy companies are supplied through this pipeline. The pipeline exploded on 26 September. Even after this, it has come to the fore that this pipeline has exploded several times. Now some satellite pictures of this explosion have come to the fore.

Biodiversity in danger in the Baltic Sea

Large amounts of methane gas are leaking into the ocean due to the explosion of the Nord Stream pipeline. This threatens the biodiversity of the Baltic Sea. Meanwhile, serious allegations are being made against Russia regarding the pipeline explosion. It is claimed that Russia blew up the pipeline to cut off fuel supplies to European countries. However, no official information has been revealed in this regard. According to media reports, 22,920 kg of methane gas is leaking every hour from the Nord Stream pipeline. This gas is enough to burn 2 lakh 85 thousand kg of coal. Methane gas is considered an important cause of global warming, so this methane leak is a big problem for European countries.

Largest methane leak ever

The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP – United Nations Environment Programme) stated that, if the Nord Stream pipeline is not repaired quickly, it will cause great damage to marine life. Apart from this, sea transport can also be affected. The rupture of the Nord Stream gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea is the largest methane leak ever.
