Mumbai: Today 30 September in history is very important for Maharashtra in history. On this day on 30 September 1993, there was a major earthquake in Latur (Latur earthquake). Thousands of people lost their lives in this. Also, there was a ruckus in a temple in Jodhpur on this day and hundreds of people died in the stampede at that time.

1687 – Aurangzeb captured Govalkonda Fort

After the death of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, who set out to conquer the south, launched the first attack on Qutb Shah. Aurangzeb conquered the fort of Golconda on 30 September 1687. In the 11th century, King Kakatiya Prataparudra of Warangal built a mud fort at Govalakonda. It was captured by the Bahmani Sultans in the Battle of Warangal in the 14th century.

1993 – 10 thousand people died in Latur earthquake

A major earthquake occurred in Latur, Maharashtra on 30 September 1993. In this earthquake 10 thousand people died, while about 16 thousand people were injured. The earthquake hit Latur and Osmanabad districts at 3.30 am. The epicenter of this earthquake was 70 km northeast of Solapur. In this earthquake of 6.04 Richter scale, 30 thousand houses were completely destroyed in 52 villages of this region while 2 lakh 11 thousand houses were damaged in 13 districts. Umga in Osmanabad district and Ausa taluk of Latur district were the most affected by this earthquake. A total of 52 villages were destroyed in these two taluks.

1996- Madras was renamed as Chennai

The capital of Tamil Nadu was renamed Madras on 30 September 1996. The city was named Chennai.

2008 – Rumored Jodhpur Temple Stampede, 224 Dead

On 30 September 2008, a stampede broke out after rumors of a bomb at a temple in Jodhpur. In this 224 people died.

2009 – 1100 people died in Indonesia earthquake

On 30 September 2009, an earthquake struck western Indonesia (Indonesia earthquake) and killed 1100 people.
