Features of Indigenous Light Combat Helicopter (LCH).

  • The Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) helicopter weighs around 6 tonnes. The Apache helicopter (Boeing AH-64 Apache) purchased by India from America weighs about 10 tons. So LCH helicopter is lighter in weight than Apache helicopter.
  • Due to its low weight, the LCH helicopter can take off and land at high altitudes with its missiles and other weapons.
  • The ‘Mistral’ air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles of the LCH attack helicopter have been specially imported from France.
  • The LCH has two pods of 12-12 rockets of 70mm each.
  • The LCH helicopter has a 20 mm gun at the front, which can fire from any direction in 110 degrees.
  • All the features of the cockpit will be displayed on the helmet of the pilot.
  • After the Kargil War, India had decided to develop an indigenous LCH helicopter. Because at that time India did not have such attack helicopters that could go up to a height of 15-16 thousand feet and destroy enemy bunkers.
  • In 2006, the government allowed the manufacture of LCH helicopters.
  • After 15 years of hard work, this light combat helicopter has been made.

What is the difference between Apache helicopter and LCH helicopter?

India may have recently bought a state-of-the-art helicopter Apache from the US, but Apache has to face a lot of difficulties in take-off and landing in the hills of Kargil and Siachen. This is because apachi is heavy in weight. Although LCH helicopters are much lighter in comparison, LCH can attack enemies at high altitude.

what is special?

The LCH helicopter is manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL – Hindustan Aeronautics Limited). According to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, enemy radars will not be able to pick up the characteristics of the LCH helicopter easily. If an enemy helicopter or fighter jet fires its missile at the LCH, the LCH can miss the missile. Enemy fire will have no effect on LCH helicopters.
