Mehmood’s father Mumtaz Ali used to work in Bombay Talkies Studio. Mahmud used to sell chocolate tablets in the local train running between Malad and Virar to meet the economic needs of the household. The film ‘Nadan’ gave me a chance

After becoming famous in the field of acting, he was paid more than the film hero.

Self respect is important!

Mahmud used to complete the work he used to do. However, he never wanted anyone’s recommendation. Meena Kumari once told famous producer-director BR Chopra that you must take Mehmood in your film. When Mehmood came to know about this recommendation, he flatly refused to do the film and walked out of the film. He wanted us to get work on self-effort if not by any recommendation.

As a comedian, Mehmood’s films ‘Dil Tera Deewana’, ‘Love in Tokyo’, ‘Main Sundar Hoon’, ‘Bombay to Goa’, ‘Nokar’, ‘Padosan’ became popular. The song of Mohammad Rafi, which was filmed on Mehmood, is still very famous among the people.
