The new rules have made it easier for some customers to get a new SIM. But some customers will not get the new SIM yet. According to the new rules, now customers will apply online for a new SIM. The government has changed the rules of SIM. Now under the new rules, the company cannot sell new SIMs to customers below the age of 18 years.

Customers above 18 years of age can verify their new SIM with Aadhaar or any document stored in DigiLocker.

DoT’s move is part of the telecom reforms approved by the cabinet on September 15, 2021.

Now for a new mobile connection, users will have to pay just Re 1 for a certificate through UIDAI’s Aadhaar based e-KYC service.

Who won’t get SIM?

According to the new rules of the Department of Telecommunications, now the company will not give SIM cards to users below 18 years of age.

If a person is mentally ill, then such person will not be given a new SIM card.

If such a person is caught violating the rules, then the telecom company selling the SIM will be considered guilty.

According to the new rules, now customers will get the SIM at their home through UIDAI based verification. Mobile connection is provided to the customer through an app/portal based process. In which customers can apply for mobile connection sitting at home. Earlier customers had to go through KYC process for mobile connection or prepaid to postpaid.
