Instagram to Begin Testing of Twitter-Like Repost Feature Soon: Report

A report quoting a spokesperson from the social media platform said that Instagram will soon start testing the repost feature available on Twitter. It will be tested with a select number of Instagram users. The first mention of the feature surfaced last week when a social media consultant spotted it on Instagram head Adam Mosseri’s profile and shared a screenshot. This development comes as Twitter is also reportedly working on adding support for sharing tweets to Instagram Stories.

TechCrunch Report A spokesperson for the Meta-owned photo and video sharing platform has confirmed that it will soon start testing the repost feature with a small number of people. “We’re exploring the ability to share posts in [Instagram] Feed — similar to how you can reshare in Stories — so people can share what resonates with them, and so the original creators are credited for their work,” the spokesperson said.

Social media consultant and industry analyst Matt Navara First seen feature and posted a screenshot showing the Repost tab on Instagram head Adam Mosseri’s profile. The Report tab is suggested to appear on users’ profiles alongside the Posts, Reels and Tagged Photos tabs. Currently, you can repost a reel or post on Instagram to your Stories and share with your friends as well as DMs in groups. There’s no special way to reshare posts on your feed like you can on Twitter, which recently added its own version of the cross-platform reposting/sharing feature on Android.

According to Twitter’s new feature, Android users will be able to share tweets directly to Instagram Stories and Snapchat. Earlier, during the process one had to take a screenshot to post it on Instagram Stories while building on the clutter in the Photos/Gallery app on the smartphone. The microblogging platform announced support for sharing tweets directly to LinkedIn for both Android and iOS.
