ICCR collaborates with Google for global promotion of Sanskrit language Latest News Updates

ICCR and Google for Sanskrit language: Now Google is going to play an important role in the promotion of Sanskrit language. The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) on Thursday signed an MoU with Google to promote the Sanskrit language. ICCR and Google will use technology-assisted artificial intelligence and machine learning to translate Sanskrit literature into several other languages.

This agreement has been done to bring Sanskrit language to the global level. The MoU was signed in the presence of ICCR Chairman Vinay Sahasrabuddhe and senior Google officials.

This MoU was signed. Under this, English and Hindi translations of one lakh commonly used Sanskrit lines are being made available on Google. Students and teachers from the Department of Sanskrit, University of Delhi, led by Professor Amarjeev Lochan, participated in it.

ICCR President Vinay Sahasrabuddhe said that Google has contributed a lot in making ICCR a bridge to bring Sanskrit to the global level. ICCR hopes that by gradually training a machine learning model with the raw data set provided to Google, it will be possible to increase the accuracy of Google’s Sanskrit translation.

In May, eight Indian languages, including Sanskrit, were added to Google Translate. The Google Translate update includes Assamese, Bhojpuri, Dogri, Konkani, Maithili, Mizo and Mitelon (Manipuri) languages.

Manish Gupta, director of Google Research Labs, said, “When we started Google Research Labs three years ago, one of the things I really loved was working on problems with languages ​​that used the technology. We looked at its capabilities. There is a very significant difference in Google product in English vs Indian languages. So we have taken this step. We are working to provide information to every Indian in their local language in other languages, Sanskrit has a special place, said Gupta.
