Photographers, bakers, roofers or even plumbers. In total, around forty craftsmen from Morbihan took part in Vannes in a first digital awareness meeting. “The nearly three-hour session gave them the keys to being more visible on the Internet,” explains Benoît Tabaka, director of institutional relations and public policy at Google France.

Alongside this first training course, which will be followed by many others in Brittany, a partnership agreement was signed between Google France and the Chamber of Trades and Crafts of Brittany. “It translates, continues Benoît Tabaka, into a commitment to increase the skills of 2,000 craftsmen by next June”.

Unique initiative in France

The sessions are all free and are led by a team from Google France, which has 10 employees in Rennes. Experts from the Regional Chamber of Trades and Crafts also intervene during these half-days of digital awareness for “the evolution of practices”. Webinars are scheduled for those unable to travel. A first has just taken place, it concerned click & collect.

“This initiative taken in Vannes is currently unique in France”, says Benoît Tabaka. He intends to duplicate it in other regions of France. Projects are being deployed in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, again with the support of the Chamber of Trades.

This work carried out by Google France with artisans completes the “Digital Workshops” created by the group a decade ago. They are deployed throughout France to raise digital awareness among different audiences. In Brittany, 7,200 people have been supported.
