God of War Ragnarok Story Trailer Tears Up, Offers First Look at Dual Valkyrie Fight

God of War Ragnarök Story Trailer Offers First Look at Týr, Dual Valkyrie Fight

God of War Ragnarök just got a story trailer. At its State of Play event held early Wednesday morning, PlayStation dropped a new trailer that hinted at the main story and gave a closer look at the combat in the game. Marking the end of the Norse saga, the father-son duo heads to the Nine Realms, preparing for a battle predicted by the Asgardian forces to find answers. God of War Ragnarok releases on November 9, exclusively on PS4 and PS5.

The crux of the story, as revealed in the God of War Ragnarok trailer, is that Atreus is keeping some secrets from his father. Kratos, who now travels through Fimbulwinter — the harbinger of the apocalypse — based entirely on his son’s instincts, eventually encounters Tyr, Odin’s son, who immediately recognizes him as the god killer. The trio then travel into uncharted territory, encountering a staunch enemy who seems to be the key piece of the puzzle — as Tire drags it down a path of light.

The God of War Ragnarok trailer talks about destiny, as Kratos guides his son to create his own destiny. He is haunted by the sins of his past, with a pair of hard-hitting Valkyries calling him the Pretender God. “All that blood is on your hands, on your son’s hands,” Tyr notes, noting that the events of the first game have their consequences. There’s also a brief conflict between the father and the now-teenage son — who discovers his name is Loki — as they venture deeper into the Nine Realms.

New gameplay is also put on display, as we see Kratos jump great distances, using the Blades of Chaos as a grappling hook/anchor — acting as a dual jump ability in select regions. Kratos can also fire or ice-based attacks to his weapons, which deal more damage and stun incoming hordes of enemies. The trailer ends with brief glimpses of Freya, as Týr torments Kratos. “Has anyone worshiped you during your lifetime? “Have you ever prayed?” he says. “Can you even imagine that kind of love?”

The God of War Ragnarok trailer also teases Thor’s much-anticipated fight against the God of Thunder as the two clash in hopes of resolving past beefs. Sköll and Hati, two giant wolves who are known for chasing the sun and moon and bringing tears to the sky, are also featured. It is prophesied that wolves catching and devouring their prey will mark the beginning of Ragnarok.

God of War Ragnarok releases on November 9, exclusively on PS4 and PS5. Pre-order now direct at Rs. 4,999 for the standard version on PS5 and 3,999 for the PS4 version.
