Gandhi Jayanti 2022: Today is the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Taking inspiration from the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi, many people participated in the freedom struggle. Mahatma Gandhi’s thoughts on life are guiding even today. When the society moves from the idea of non-violence, then we see ourselves in a new form because of Gandhi’s idea. This gives rise to ideas like humanity, universality. ‘Ujeed’ is a village that proves how deep Gandhiji’s thoughts were in rural India 70 years ago.
“Ujeed”, a village in Latur district. In a village where there is light of Gandhian thoughts, where there is light of religious harmony, there should be light to resolve the disputes of the village through mediation. In a village that is neither of God nor of Satan. So Gandhi Baba’s journey was completed.
India got independence in 1947. Keeping faith in the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi, many people participated in the freedom struggle movement. Everyone had won. But Marathwada was dominated by the Nizams. A year later, the Nizam state merged with India. The thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi also reached in the light of this Nizam’s state.

There were disputes in the village about whether to visit Pira or visit Mahadev. Some wise citizens of the village together proposed that we should start the journey of Gandhi Baba. People from all the communities of the village unanimously approved this decision. It was 26 January. The statue of Mahatma Gandhi was brought. The statue was installed at the main square of the village. Colors, flags, rangolis were made all over the village. All preparations were made like a pilgrimage to the village deity. The main attraction of Gandhi Baba’s visit is the national anthem. On the morning of 26 January, everyone gathers in front of the statue of Gandhi Baba located at Gandhi Chowk. The national flag is taken out in procession. In this yatra, the national anthem is sung instead of aarti. The village requisitioned by Mahatma Gandhi can be seen in Ujeed. If the thinking of the whole country is the same then there will be no religious debate anywhere.
This journey lasts a week
From that day till today, on 26th January, Gandhi Baba’s visit takes place in this village. The entire Ujedkar as well as the citizens of Latur district also participate in this yatra, which takes place on 26 January. A few years ago this journey used to be for two days. on 25 January and 26 January. The nature of pilgrimage gradually increased. Now this journey lasts for a week. The yatra will end on January 26. From the first day of the yatra, animal disease diagnosis camps, guidance camps for farmers, wrestling competitions on the last day, various entertainment programs, singing, playing, dance competitions are organized throughout the week.
Propagation and dissemination of Gandhian ideas
Villagers say that we are proud of the pilgrimage in the name of Mahatma Gandhi and if Ujeed village gets the status of a tourist destination in future, then the village will get money. If from that fund Mahatma Gandhi’s thoughts, books and studies are developed here, it will benefit the students of rural areas, as well as spread and propagate Gandhi’s ideas. Keeping this in mind, for the last few years many youths of the village have been trying to implicate the government in the court.
