Elon Musk lashed out at The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Monday in an attempt to criticize the series that recently debuted on Amazon Prime Video. The Tesla CEO, who faces off against Twitter next month in a bid to buy the microblogging platform, is in a long-running feud with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Musk’s complaints about the show revolved around the show’s characters and their fallacies while conforming to traditional gender roles.
“Tolkien is turning in his grave,” Musk tweeted dramatically on Monday, after Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which premiered Sept. 2, exclusively on Prime Video. It’s worth noting that Amazon announced that the series attracted 25 million global viewers in its first 24 hours, making it the biggest premiere on the service.
So far almost every male character has been a blonde, a jerk, or both. Only Galadriel is brave, smart and nice.

“Almost every male character so far has been a coward, a jerk, or both. Only Galadriel is brave, smart, and awesome,” Musk continued in a second, misogynistic tweet. Galadriel, a warrior elf, is played by Welsh actor Morfydd Clarke.
It’s also worth noting that Musk has a long-running feud with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, whose Blue Origin spaceflight service company competes with SpaceX. Musk has regularly tried to troll against Bezos and his companies.
Musk’s Twitter rant was criticized by author Neil Gaiman Tweeted: “Elon Musk doesn’t come to me for advice on how to fail to buy Twitter, and I don’t go to him for film, TV or literary criticism.”
The LOTR prequel series, set thousands of years before Peter Jackson’s films, aims to address the lack of strong female characters in The Lord of the Rings universe.
Amazon has already invested over $1 billion (roughly Rs. 8,000 crore) for its five-season commitment.
New The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power episodes air every Friday on Amazon Prime Video in India at 9:30 IST until the series finale on October 14.
