The Enforcement Directorate (ED) said on Monday that it has conducted a search operation and found that the account of Rs. 5.59 crore from Aamir Khan and his accomplices in a scam involving mobile gaming application e-Nuggets.
ED has taken Action under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
An instant case was registered against Aamir Khan and others on the basis of an FIR filed under various sections of the IPC by the Park Street Police Station, Kolkata on 15 February 2021 based on the complaint filed by the Federal Bank officials in the court. Learned Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Calcutta, ED said in a statement.
Nesar Ahmed Khan’s son Aamir Khan launched a mobile gaming application called e-Nuggets, which was designed to cheat people. Further, after collecting a huge amount from people, suddenly, on one pretext or the other, withdrawals were stopped from the said app. After that, all data including profile information was wiped from this app server, ED said.
During the investigation it was revealed that several accounts (more than 300) were used for money laundering. Based on available information, an amount of Rs.20 thousand was deposited. 5.59 crore remaining in the respective bank accounts have been frozen, the enforcement agency said.
Earlier, during the search operation against Aamir Khan, Rs. 17.32 crore cash found and seized from residential premises; 85.91870554 Bitcoins equivalent to $1674255.7 (approx. Rs. 14 Crore) were found in balance on Binance Exchange; Cryptocurrency [WRX (utility token of WazirX) and USDT (Tether)] Equivalent to Rs. 47.64 lakh was frozen in “WazirX Accounts”.
During the investigations conducted so far under PMLA Rs. A total of Rs 36.96 crore has been seized/frozen in this case. Further investigation is on, ED said.
