Duolingo, the popular language-learning platform, has announced the launch of its first non-language app called Duolingo Math. The company has opened a public waiting list for its beta test, and it’s currently limited to iPhone and iPad users. Duolingo Math uses a game-like interface to teach and test elementary-level math concepts, including multiplication, division, fractions, angles, and basic geometry. With the new curriculum, the service aims to target school-going children.

The Duolingo Math app, which focuses on elementary-school-level math, will soon enter a beta phase. It teaches third grade math and is now available only for iPhone and iPad models.

The app will cover topics like multiplication, division, fractions, area, perimeter, angles, chronology and more and will use pictures to teach users. As a language learning platform, the Duolingo Math app will also introduce gamification of the entire learning experience. More details about the launch date of the new companion app’s features will be announced today at the company’s fourth annual DuoCon conference. Pittsburgh-based Duolingo was launched in 2014 by Louis von Ahn and currently offers a total of more than 100 courses in 41 languages, including Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Navajo, and Yiddish. The app is claimed to have around 42 million monthly active users. According to the company, it has nearly 500 million downloads.

Earlier, Duolingo launched the Duolingo ABC literacy app for children aged three to eight years. The app, available on Google Play and the App Store, helps kids read and write in English by teaching them the alphabet, phonics, sight words, vocabulary, character-driven stories and more.
