Delhi High Court dismisses WhatsApp, Facebook appeals in CCI inquiry hearing: Report

According to a report, the Delhi High Court has dismissed pleas challenging a bench order regarding the Competition Commission of India’s (CCI) probe into WhatsApp and Facebook’s 2021 privacy policy. Meta, formerly known as Facebook, had earlier asked the High Court to intervene in the CCI probe. According to reports, the Delhi High Court bench comprising Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad passed the dismissal order. The bench said the appeals were “meritless” as per the report.

According to A Report Via LiveLaw, a division bench of the Delhi High Court has dismissed an appeal by WhatsApp and Facebook against a single bench order refusing to interfere in the CCI probe of the instant messaging platform’s 2021 privacy policy.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad ordered the dismissal of WhatsApp and Facebook-owner Meta’s plea.

A Delhi High Court bench dismissed the appeals filed by Facebook-owner Meta and WhatsApp as “meritless”. According to reports, the order was announced today after being reserved on July 25.

According to a report in June last year, WhatsApp and Facebook had requested the Delhi High Court to stay the CCI inquiry into the instant messaging platform’s privacy policy 2021.

Recently, the CCI had told the Delhi High Court that since WhatsApp had not withdrawn its 2021 privacy policy, it should be allowed to continue with the probe.
