DC Films may have found its Kevin Feige in Dan Lynn. The executive-turned-producer is in contention to ignore all upcoming films and TV series for the superhero arm. This decision has been taken in the wake of Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is laying out a 10-year plan for the DC brand — starting a “reset” under a new team, focused on quality over quantity. The move will see current DC Films president Walter Hamada step down, paving the way for Lin to take over.
New candidate Lin, known for creating the Academy Award-winning The Lego Movie, is one of the strong contenders to take on the role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the proposed system would exclude three division heads — Warner Bros. Pictures heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdi, HBO/HBO Max head Casey Bloys and Warner Bros. TV Chair Channing Dungey – Control in one person’s hands.
Lin also produced the 2017 film The Lego Batman Movie, noted for a podcast Earlier this month, in 2008, he almost got the job of “overseeing the entire DC franchise.” At the time, he was working on the now-cancelled Justice League movie with Oscar-winning filmmaker George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road).
Reports claim that Hamada, the current head of DC Films, will exit the role. THR’s sources claim the parties involved are discussing salary and the future of Lin’s production company, Rideback. That said, current DC chief Dwayne Johnson will oversee Black Adam’s October 21st release. Earlier this month, it was revealed that Hamada had not been consulted about the shock cancellation of the live-action show. Batgirl Movie, starring Leslie Grace.
Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed the cancellation of Wonder Twins, Batgirl, and Scoob! The holiday haunt was a tough part of the strategy, but it didn’t fit their vision of maximizing financial returns. Other reports have indicated that Batgirl Passed the test screening, which the audience called “irreversible”. The film, originally slated for an HBO Max release, will not appear in theaters or on streaming platforms.
