Cyberpunk 2077 Jumps to 85,000+ Active Players on Steam, Highest Since Initial Launch Period

Cyberpunk 2077 has reached the highest number of concurrent players on Steam since January 2021. CD Projekt Red’s latest has made a comeback with 85,000+ active users on the platform as of Monday, according to SteamDB’s unaffiliated database. At the time of launch – December 2020 – the game had more than a million concurrent players, which was soon closed, due to numerous complaints about errors and optimization problems. The new Netflix anime Cyberpunk Edgernars received a sudden surge in popularity due to its critical reception.

In collaboration with Studio Trigger, CD Projekt Red recently expanded its Cyberpunk 2077 universe with a new anime, Cyberpunk Edgers. The 10-episode series was released on September 13, receiving a positive response from a large number of players. This will be the second time Polish developers can capitalize on Netflix adaptations to increase game sales — much later since launch.

Previously, the studio had seen similar results with The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, when it dropped a Henry Cavill-led live-action series on Netflix. Inspiring many players To return to the realm of fantasy.

This year has clearly seen the resurgence of Cyberpunk 2077, with developers having spent the past 20 months working on patches to fix game-breaking issues on PC and consoles. The game saw a disastrous launch on PS4, including extremely low framerates and crashes, forcing Sony to delete the game from its online store. It was eventually brought back in June 2021, but warned that the game was best experienced on PS4 Pro and PS5. Since then, the title has undergone several improvements in addition to fresh content.

Earlier this month, in celebration of the anime’s launch, CD Projekt Red unveiled some in-game swag, including the anime’s shotgun and a legendary jacket. Titled Patch 1.6, the update adds three new gigs – Concrete Cage Trap, Desperate Measures and Nasty Hangover. Cross-progression was also enabled across platforms, allowing you to launch PC save files on console (or vice versa) and pick up where you left off.

The Night City Wire The broadcast also featured Cyberpunk 2077’s first major DLC, Phantom Liberty. The expansion brings back Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand and follows your character, V. The teaser hints at the rise of an oppressive regime in Night City, lots of dead government officials, a fight using an electric whip, and a new mysterious character. More information on this will be available closer to the launch in 2023. The expansion will be available on PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PS5.
