Congress President Election: A big news has come to light as tomorrow is the last day for filing nomination papers for the post of Congress President. Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge may also join the race for Congress President. According to sources, Mallikarjun Kharge may file nomination as a candidate on Friday (September 30) with the support of the Gandhi family. Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor will also file their nomination papers on Friday.
In this, the leaders of the G-23 group of Congress also held a meeting on Thursday amid the uproar over the election of the Congress President. The meeting took place at Anand Sharma’s residence. Many leaders including Manish Tewari, Prithviraj Chavan, Bhupendra Hooda were present in this meeting. Sources say that the G-23 group may also field a presidential candidate. The G-23 group has called another meeting on Friday.
After Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, Digvijay Singh, now the G-23 group is also considering to field candidates. At the same time, Mallikarjun Kharge can also contest elections as a favorite of the Gandhi family. After all these developments, the election of Congress President has become more colorful. A source close to a senior party leader had already indicated that Mallikarjun Kharge would contest. Congress President Sonia Gandhi said senior party leader M Mallikarjun Kharge will not hesitate to contest for the post of All India Congress Committee (AICC) president, sources said on Wednesday.
Applications can be submitted till 30 September
Mallikarjun Kharge has good relations with opposition leaders like Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar and CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury. Due to which they will get additional benefit. Their base is in Hindi speaking states. Meanwhile, Friday (September 30) is the last date for filing applications for the election of Congress President. Therefore, the name can be withdrawn by 8 October. The elections will be held on October 17 and the results will be declared on October 19.
