Mahatma Gandhi also visited here in 1927 and 1932. At this time Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP saying that the ideology that killed the freedom fighter has given rise to inequality and division in the last eight years.

Rahul Gandhi is currently on a pair visit to India. On 30 September he reached Gundalupet in Karnataka from Gudalur in Tamil Nadu state.
