Challenged by Reclaim Finance, BNP Paribas defends its green strategy

BNP Paribas rappelle que son exposition aux clients du secteur de l'énergie représentait, fin 2021, moins de 4 % de l'intégralité de ses crédits à l'économie.

Usually, BNP Paribas cares little about the banking comparators that abound on the Web. But he doesn’t like this one. The bank on rue d’Antin indeed sent a letter – of which “Les Echos” obtained a copy – to Lucie Pinson, the president of the environmental NGO Reclaim Finance, to denounce the site change-de-banque.org, which invites individuals to choose a banking establishment that is more virtuous in terms of the climate.

Put online by Reclaim on September 12, this site compares French banks on the basis of their financing of industries linked to fossil fuels. Awarded a red rating despite displaying strong ambitions in climate matters, BNP Paribas is particularly mistreated by the NGO, which encourages individuals to turn to La Banque Postale, Crédit Coopératif or even neobanks such as Helios or Green Got.
