Cabinet approves Redevelopment of New Delhi, Ahmedabad and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus CSMT, Mumbai Railway Stations

railway station: Three important railway stations of the country will now be redeveloped. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Mumbai(Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Mumbai) Ahmedabad Railway Station (New Delhi Railway Station), Indian Railways’ proposal for redevelopment of Ahmedabad Railway Station has been approved.

Union Cabinet approves investment of Rs 10,000 crore for three major stations

Tomorrow’s decision of the Union Cabinet will give a new direction to the development of railway stations. Presently 199 railway stations are under development across the country. Of these, tenders have been issued for 47 railway stations. Major planning and design work is in progress for the rest of the stations. The Center has told that the work of 32 stations is going on fast. Yesterday, the Union Cabinet approved an investment of Rs 10,000 crore for three major stations namely New Delhi, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Ahmedabad Railway Station.

These facilities will be available at railway stations

Each station has all kinds of facilities, including shops, cafeteria, recreational facilities.
Since the station building is located on either side of the railway track, both the sides of the city will be connected to these stations.
Facilities like food court, waiting room, children’s play area, space for local produce will be available.
Railway stations located in inner cities will have places like city centers.
Railway stations will have adequate lighting, wayfinding maps/signs, sound systems, lifts/escalators/travellers to make railway stations comfortable.
An extensive layout has been designed with ample parking facilities for ease of transport.
Integration with other transport facilities like metro, bus etc. will be done.
Green building technologies including solar energy, water conservation/recycling and improved tree cover will be used.
Special care will be taken to provide handicap friendly facilities.
These stations will be developed on the concept of Intelligent Building.
There will be a separate division of arrivals and departures.
Railway stations will be equipped with various security features including CCTV.
