The world map changes to BNP Paribas. Over the past few years, the group has been adjusting its geographic exposure, sometimes dramatically – as evidenced by the ongoing sale of Bank of the West in the United States – or in small steps, gradually giving more weight to Germany or the UK in its business model. All in all, the group is becoming a little more European, and is seeking to rebalance its exposure between the various countries of the euro zone.

This is what emerges by comparing the group’s accounts at the end of 2017 – more or less when BNP Paribas announced its intention to beef up the game in Germany – with those of 2021. Last year, all businesses combined, the group thus generated in Germany a current profit before tax of 649 million euros, or 5.3% of the group’s total (excluding Bank of the West).
