If the health benefits of green tea are regularly touted, those of black tea are a little less well studied. Strange when you know that about 25,000 cups of this beverage are drunk in the world every second. Hence the interest of a study published by the National Institute of Health (NIH) as part of a cancer research program (Annals of Internal Medicine, August 2022). Some 500,000 people aged 40 to 69 followed for a good decade were questioned about their consumption of black tea. Conclusion: the risk of mortality from all causes would be lower by 9 to 13% in those consuming at least two cups of black tea each day. And this, even in individuals adding milk and/or sugar, infusing their beverage at medium or high temperature or also drinking coffee. An effect attributed by the richness in polyphenols, antioxidants present in tea (black or green). Other previous studies have also shown a beneficial effect of black tea on brain aging and the occurrence of strokes.
