Apple MacBook Pro, iPad Pro tipped to feature 5nm chip: Ming-Chi Kuo

Tata Group in talks with Wistron to manufacture iPhone in India: Report

The MacBook Pro and iPad Pro, which are heading into mass production this year, have been hinted at not using 3nm chip technology. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, both Apple gadgets are tipped to sport new 5nm chips. A few days ago, he had hinted about this. The analyst also added that new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with new processors will enter mass production in 4Q22.

Kuo reiterated his earlier note that the upcoming MacBook Pro and iPad will enter mass production in the fourth quarter of 2022 (4Q22). He also suggested that Apple’s 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models could come with a “5nm advanced node”. This means that this new laptop will have the same M2 chip under the hood that powers the MacBook Pro (2022) and MacBook Air (2022).

Analysts are reportedly divided over the chip technology Apple will use to power the upcoming iPad Pro and MacBook Pro. This is where Kuo reiterates his claim that the models could come with 5nm chips. Explaining the reason for this in a Twitter post, he said, “EMS must purchase updated components from October for mass-production products in 4Q22, but 3nm chips will not be available until January 2023. So I think the new MacBook Pro and iPad Pro, which will enter mass production in 4Q22, will adopt the new but likely 3nm processor.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman did a month ago [claimed](https://gadgets360.com/laptops/news/macbook-pro-m2-max-chipset-launch-expected-fall-2022-spring-2023-mar-gurman-bloomberg-apple-3168131) which includes MacBook Pro laptops M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets as well as 14-inch and 16-inch displays will be launched sometime between fall 2022 and spring 2023. Gurman also noted that “it’s hard to predict exactly when these will hit store shelves. .

The launch of these laptops was first tipped earlier this year when Gurman claimed that Apple is working on a total of 9 desktops and laptops with different variants of the M2 processor, including the M2 Pro and M2 Max.
