The US Department of Justice has a say in Apple’s antitrust case with Epic Games. The hearing of this case will be held on October 21. The Court of Appeal has authorized the Justice Department to send a representative to the hearing next month. In 2021, a California judge ruled against Epic Games, arguing that Apple was acting as a monopoly in its App Store for digital goods or services.
According to recent information Report According to Reuters, US Department of Justice officials have asked Fortnite maker Epic Games to take part in oral arguments next month in its damages appeal against Apple. Hearing on this dispute will be held on October 21.
Epic Games sued Apple in 2020 alleging that the American tech giant violated antitrust laws along with App Store rules. The rules required developers to pay Apple a commission of 30 percent of in-app purchases.
As previously mentioned, in 2021, a California judge ruled against Epic Games in which Apple mostly prevailed, allowing the commissions to stand.
For now, Apple can still mandate that its payment systems be used for in-app transactions. Both sides are appealing.
