The Central Government has decided to appoint retired Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan as the next Chief of Defense Staff. He will also serve as the Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, Government of India. Earlier this post was vacant after the sudden death of CDS Bipin Rawat. Anil Chauhan held several command, staff and important positions during his military career spanning nearly 40 years. He has experience in responding to counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast India.
